Ulysses S. Grant was the eighteenth President of the United States. He was a Union general during the American Civil War, and was a Republican, who were the Liberals back then. Although he was supposedly a liberal, things weren't always good for Grant, his Administration was notorious for corruption, and then he was fined for speeding in a horse-drawn carriage, which is not at all sensible. Grant is featured on the US $50 Dollar bill.

Although historians didn't view Grant favorably because of the corruption, those views have sometimes been countered by his pursuit of Civil rights for African-Americans.

Grant was an early proponent of World government, though probably as in the USA running the world, see Ulysess S. Grant.
