Tajikistan is a country in central Asia with a population of roughly 8 Million. Tajikistan shares a border with Afghanistan, China, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. Earthquakes happen in Tajikistan. There are mountains and fertile valleys and agriculture is important for the Tajik Economy. Cotton, fruits, grapes, grain and vegetables are grown. Cattle, goats and sheep are important.
Tajikistan used to be part of the USSR but Civil war started soon after the Soviets left in 1991. Later the United Nations helped negotiate a peace agreement. Tajikistan remains the Poorest nation of central Asia and is dependent on Russia for economic assistance. Still the economy has started rapid growth.
Imomali Rakhmonov has been the president since 1992 but there are allegations of electoral fraud. The government has been clamping down on ways of doing things that are considered Muslim like men with beards, women's head covers (hijabs), Muslim names.
