Linux is an open source operating system along with some binary blobs. Open source is our friend because it allows freedom of developers to edit the software. Operating systems that use Linux kernel include Mandriva Linux, Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Fedora, Debian, OpenSUSE etc. Microsoft wants to destroy Linux to promote its closed source business model. Linux is far better than Microsoft and threat of malware and viruses are low because it is open source. Plus, Linux contains many utilities that you would have to download if you were using Windows. These utilities include Python and C compilers.

Linux was invented in 1990 by a man named Linus Torvalds who is in his 40s. (Note: the OS is is officially called GNU/Linux. because GNU is the name of the command line utilities that originate in UNIX, an operating system that is from the 1970s and late 1960s that is developed by Bell Labs.) Sadly, Linux used to be closed source, but that was only the first kernel when it was written for Mr. Charlie Brown himself. It has more than 20 million lines of code.
