Greenland is a very icy, mountainous Island north east of Canada and a land where the Atlantic joins the Arctic. Greenland is home to cold ocean currents which keep it cool while the Gulf stream warms it slightly. It's still pretty bloody cold though. Most of Greenland is covered in an ice sheet that is more than a mile thick at its deepest.
Greenland is a self governing territory of Denmark but is getting steadily more independent. Erik the Red, a Viking, named the island Greenland, in order to attract settlers to the island. Greenland only has a population of about 57,000 , no larger than the population of a large town.
The Greenland ice-sheet holds most of the Earth's freshwater that isn't frozen in Antarctica, it and the West Antarctic ice-sheet are highly vulnerable to Global warming though Antarctica is also vulnerable. If Greenland melts, the seas will rise by seven metres and important coastal areas will be submerged. Major cities like London and New York are at risk.
