Confucius was a famous man in China 500 years ago who founded Confucianism.

Confucius believed people should follow the Golden Rule. People should be compassionate, avoid exaggerating their own importance, and should practise self restraint. Confucius believed ritual was important, he advocated obedience in a way only Conservatives would today (wives should obey their husbands for example). People should carry out the functions appropriate for their rank be it high or low. Confucius also taught those in authority had responsibilities to their subordinates.

Confucius believed rulers should behave justly and compassionately towards those they ruled, Tyrants did not have the right to rule.
