Carbon dioxide or CO2 is a compound where each molecule consists of one carbon atom and two oxygen atoms. Carbon dioxide forms when carbon or carbon compounds burn in the atmosphere. Plants use carbon dioxide to form organic compounds during photosynthesis.

At ordinary temperatures carbon dioxide is a gas and is in important Greenhouse gas as it forms when fossil fuels are burnt and adds to Global warming.
